Tabinaka(Fun Group) acquires “HOP”, local tour company in Hawaii

Tabinaka Inc. (HQ: Shibuya-ku Tokyo, Japan; CEO and President: Kenji Miki), operating the “Tabinaka” business, a startup company providing a platform for tours and experiences, has acquired all of the outstanding shares of Wakeboard School Hawaii Ltd. (HQ: State of Hawaii in U.S; CEO and President: Takashi Kono; trade name: HOP), a local tour company in Hawaii, to make it a wholly-owned subsidiary.

HOP is a local tour company established in 1990, with 3,000 monthly customers - its Hanauma Bay tour is the most popular in the area. It is a time-tested company with a history of 28 years that holds a PUC license (1653-C) which allows for the use of buses with a seating capacity of 25 or more passengers.

HOP has developed a proprietary virtual guide application, which allows for the streamlining and productivity boost of its guide operations; it will continue to accelerate product development utilizing various technologies to reduce time-consuming tasks around operations and create additional value in the tourist’s experience.

I have managed local tour companies in Hawaii for more than 20 years and I have chosen Tabinaka(Fun Group) after I carefully considered how to grow my company in this traditional industry with few innovations in sight. Takashi has lived in Hawaii for 18 years. He also has previous experience working as a systems engineer in the tourism industry in Silicon Valley. He has led HOP with the aim of introducing the wonderful charms of Hawaii to as many people as possible via its tours and activities. His decision to join Tabianka was based on the raw energy of the startup, and his goal to bring Hawaii to the next generation of travellers.

After graduating from university, Shu worked for a large startup company in the travel space and then started her own business in education at the age of 23, setting up 6 prep schools in 3 cities with an R&D function. In November 2015, she joined Tabinaka convinced of the potential of the tourism industry and moved by the company’s vision.
